Janie is a Partner at Family Law Matters Scotland LLP with more than thirty years’ experience as a solicitor and more than twenty years’ experience as a family mediator.
Working exclusively in the area of family law since 1998, Janie makes it a priority to find the best approach for each client.
Janie is a CALM Family Mediator, accredited by the Law Society of Scotland. In 2013 she completed a Master’s Degree in Mediation and Conflict Resolution at the University of Strathclyde, graduating with distinction. She delivers an introductory course in Mediation at Glasgow University as part of their post-qualifying education programme.
From 2000 to 2004, Janie was a Reporter within the Children’s Hearing system in Glasgow (Scottish Children’s Reporter Administration) during which time she established a restorative justice option for child offenders. This involved working in partnership with a range of statutory agencies and other professions.
It has been Janie’s practice for many years to discuss the option of counselling with clients, recognising that emotions can be overwhelming and can cloud judgement at a crucial time. Janie completed a post-graduate diploma at the Caledonian University (Kinharvie) on a part-time basis over two years and volunteered as a counsellor at the Tom Allan Centre in Glasgow.
Janie was the Chair of Mellow Parenting, an international charity based in Govan, Glasgow from 2012 until February 2018 and remains an ex officio member. Janie is a member of the Family Law Association, Consensus Scotland, The International Academy of Collaborative Professionals, CALM and the Glasgow Bar Association.
